Absolutely horrific! I had forgotten about that big leather strap and the fear that it gave us. I remember even thinking as a child how barbaric it was. Poor little Maria must have been terrified. And for so many years parents never challenged the corporal punishment, it was just accepted because it's what was done when they were children too.

A really great story Maria that has brought back so many memories, unfortunately most of them are bad.
