Sports can be dangerous.

A friend who played in the CFL took a bad hit in a game and was left paralyzed. A friend of a friend competed in snowboarding on the world stage. She had a bad crash, and didn't survive. When an athlete reaches that level, the need to push the limits is what creates champions. Many know the risks but don't think it will happen to them.
